Brian Perry OBE

Biography
Brian Perry is a veterinary surgeon by profession, and throughout his career he has specialised on the role of livestock agricultural development. He has worked in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and was for 20 years with the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) at ILRAD and ILRI, where he led programmes in epidemiology, systems analysis and impact assessment. He is now an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh, UK, a Visiting Professor at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, UK, and an Extraordinary (Honorary) Professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Over the last four years he has led several independent evaluations of public fund investments in agricultural development programmes for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Bank and the European Union (in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Swaziland, Kosovo and Montenegro, for example, and a global evaluation of the UN’s avian influenza preparedness and response), and advises other national and international organisations.
Dr Brian Perry was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to veterinary science in developing countries.
Brian is an active polo player and is Chairman of the Kenya Polo Association. In 2011 he played polo for Kenya at an international polo tournament in the USA. A hip replacement ten years ago has not diminished his activities, which also include wind-surfing, tennis and water skiing!
